About Shook Yap, MD

Dr. Yap is a board-certified pediatrician whose areas of special interest include newborn care and childhood obesity. Dr. Yap is assistant director of the Grow 2B Fit Foundation, a local non-profit organization founded by Dr. Jessica Schultz that is dedicated to the prevention of childhood obesity through family lifestyle education. Dr. Yap was born and raised in Malaysia. She attended medical school and residency in Ireland. During her residency, Dr. Yap was given the Walt Vikram Troester Memorial Scholarship for demonstrating exemplary compassion in the care of newborns. Dr. Yap moved to the United States in 2003 to join her husband, who is an interventional cardiologist at the University of Arizona. Dr. Yap, who has published papers on ailments in newborns, completed her U.S. residency training at St. Joseph’s Medical Center, Phoenix, in 2008. She previously worked in pediatric practices in Tuscon and Covington, Georgia.
